Learning how to balance on a bicycle is something many people did as children. Riding a bicycle in traffic is something most people have never learned because there was no one to teach them. Now there is.
The League of American Bicyclists through certified cycling instructors offers several courses and modules designed to help teenagers and adults learn to ride bicycles safely and comfortably on urban roads.
Traffic Skills 101 is the foundation of the program. It provides instruction and guidance in the implementation of the basic principles of vehicular cycling. Bicyclists benefit from the knowledge that will assist them in enjoying many memorable miles on the bicycles in all types of situations.
This course combines classroom discussion and activities with on-road practice of the principles of vehicular-style bicycling. Instructors for this course are certified by the League of American Bicyclists and have undergone extensive training.
Other bicycle education modules are offered by the League as well, focusing on specific audiences, such as children and motorists. They are usually shorter in duration than the Road I course.
