League Certified Instructors (LCI) are obligated to convey some things that adults and teenagers need to know about bicycling. They are:
Always
- Wear a helmet
- Conduct an ABC Quick Check before every ride
- Ride on the right and obey traffic control devices
- Ride predictably and be visible at all times
- Scan for traffic and signal lane changes and turns
- Control your bike by practicing bike handling skills
- Drink before you are thirsty and eat before you are hungry
Most of these items are fairly straightforward, but the ABC Quick Check is not. It simply means to check:
- For air in your tires
- That your brakes are in working order
- That your cranks, chain and cassette are also in working order
- That your quick releases, if you have any, are tight in the frame
- And, to simply check your entire bike over for any other possible problems.
